Internship

Welcome to the DOVES Program's Internship Information Page! We appreciate your interest in joining our team and helping to support and empower survivors of sexual and domestic violence. As an intern with the DOVES Program, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of survivors by providing them with support, information, and resources as they navigate complex systems and challenges.

As an intern, you will work closely with the DOVES Program's staff in the office, providing support and assistance as needed. You will also have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of social issues and to develop your skills in active listening, communication, and problem-solving.DOVES Program.

We believe that every person has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and we are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all of our interns and clients. As an intern, you will be trained to provide non-judgmental, trauma-informed support to clients and to advocate for their rights and needs.

Interns will also be responsible for helping DOVES’ staff cover our 24-hour Helpline and 24-hour Text Line.

Interns will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality

  • Providing direct services via our 24-hour Help and Text lines

  • Providing direct services via face-to-face interactions

  • Providing clients with safety planning and information about civil and/or criminal justice system

  • Responding to requests for advocacy from law enforcement and healthcare professionals

  • Assessing the need for additional services and making appropriate referrals in-house and to other community resources

  • Advocating on behalf of clients with other community agencies

  • Completing client paperwork & computer work

  • Communicating shift activities to other staff & volunteers

  • Creating and maintaining relationships with community agencies

  • Participating in program tracking, evaluation, and reporting

  • Actively participating in staff meetings and other agency-wide training & personal development opportunities

  • Decision-Making: Frequent situations occur that are outside established policies and procedures and require astute judgment and the ability to evaluate alternatives to resolve challenging situations
