Volunteer

Welcome to the DOVES Program’s Volunteer Program information page! We're glad that you are considering volunteering your time and talents with us. At the DOVES Program, we are dedicated to supporting and empowering survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Our volunteers are an integral part of our team and we couldn't do the important work that we do without their dedication and commitment. Thank you for your interest in joining our team and for your willingness to make a difference in the world.

Step one: Apply

We are currently looking for Volunteer Client Advocates to cover night and weekend shifts, and Volunteer Community Ambassadors to attend community events. We are also accepting applications for internships starting in the Fall 2023.

Checklist

Step two: Interview

After your application is received, you may be invited to participate in an online interview with the DOVES Program's staff. This will typically be a video call, using a platform such as Zoom or GoToMeeting. During the interview, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the DOVES Program and to ask any questions you may have. The DOVES Program's staff will also have the chance to get to know you better and to determine whether you would be a good fit for our organization.

Step three: Decision

After the interview, you will need to wait for the DOVES Program's decision about your application. This process can take a few days or up to a week, depending on our workload and the number of applicants. You will be notified by email or phone about the decision.

Step four: Training

If your application is accepted, you will be invited to begin the comprehensive online training that can be done at home*. This training will cover all the skills and knowledge that you'll need to be an effective volunteer for the DOVES Program. You will engage with current staff on every training topic, and you will be given assessments along the way to ensure that you are retaining the material and are competent in your role.

*If you are applying to be a Volunteer Community Ambassador, you will attend one 5-hour training session hosted in your community on a Saturday.

Step five: Feedback

After completing the online training, you will need to submit your training certificates and complete a comprehensive feedback form. This feedback form will help the DOVES Program improve our training materials and processes, as well as assess your competencies, retention of information, and any further training needs.

Step six: Commitment

Finally, you will need to meet face-to-face with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss any necessary background checks and sign the Volunteer Contract. This contract will outline your rights and responsibilities as a volunteer, as well as any policies and procedures that you need to follow.

Thank you for considering volunteering with the DOVES Program. We look forward to working with you and making a positive impact together!
